What is Cattlecare?
Why was CattleCare Developed?
Why obtain CattleCare Accreditation?

|
Balla Balla Red Poll Stud is
Accredited with CattleCare Australia.
Cattlecare is a series of checks and balances
made by the producer during the many stages
of livestock production.
If you think about
it, most of the inputs to a farm have gone
through some form of Quality Assurance. It
is logical that the output of the farm - the
very start of the food chain - should be based
on the principles of Quality Assurance.

Accreditation under Cattlecare offers substantial
benefits. The most important of these is recognition
as a supplier of quality animals which meet Cattlecare
standards - with emphasis on:
- minimal risk of chemical contamination through
the safe, responsible use of chemicals
- minimised bruising and hide damage
- more effective management and herd improvement through better record keeping
|
Cattlecare is an initiative
of the Cattle Council of Australia. Cattlecare
is supported by: MEAT & LIVESTOCK AUSTRALIA.
It clearly and simply sets out what you need
to do to assure buyers you are taking the
right steps to supply meat of the quality
demanded by today's increasingly critical
markets - both here and overseas.
The market place is telling
us there will be rewards for good performance
and adherence to specification. However that
must go hand in hand with penalties and discounts:
the days of averaging have gone.

The demand for increased quality falls into several areas:
Consumers only want 'clean' wholesome beef
- they don't want residues, even at levels of a few
parts per million
Meat processors and feedlots require cattle
that they can be confident will not have unnecessary
bruising and hide damage and which will be free from
unacceptable chemical contamination.
Producers must realise that they are not only jeopardising
export and domestic markets by selling contaminated
cattle, but in the future they can risk prosecution
and/or litigation. That means competition is now stronger
than ever - especially as many of our international
competitors have adopted Quality Assurance standards
which give them a clear, easily demonstrated marketing
advantage.
Processors will either reject substandard
products outright, or at best only buy it at a substantial
discount - one which represents a severe loss to the
seller. Guaranteed quality and price are also the
cornerstones of successful business worldwide.
Overseas markets are placing more emphasis on sourcing
quality food products. Cattlecare is totally compatible
with Flockcare.
|
By obtaining Cattlecare accreditation
we are well placed to be appropriately rewarded
for the care we take in production of our
cattle.
Our accreditation is a tangible
expression of our total commitment to product
quality - in a fully recorded, easily confirmed
way.
Australia already has an enviable
reputation for producing high quality foods
in a natural and sound environment.
By adding Quality Assurance
to that reputation we can truly claim to supply
the best meat in the world.

Quality Assurance is not new - other industries have
been using it for many years with considerable success.
The poultry industry has been using it for almost
a decade.
In fact the beef industry is one of the last major
industries to recognise the benefits of Quality Assurance.
Our competitors in the chicken and pork industries
in Australia - and our major export competitors, the
United States - are well down the Quality Assurance
track.
